And many happy holidays to all y'all

Let's just run down the list of what we've been celebrating this week/end, shall we?

(Tuesday night) Chaharshanbe Suri: The night before the last Wednesday of the Parsi year. Must take a lot of stamina to leap over seven fires.

(Thursday) Purim: Jewish celebration along the usual lines of, "They tried to kill us; they failed; let's eat!" Also involves dressing up in costume and reading the story of the purported event. I did not dress up and sit in my livingroom contemplating Purim.

(Friday) Bara Rabi-ul-Awwal, aka Milad-u-Nabi: 12th of Islamic month of Rabi-ul-Awwal, also known as the Advent of the Prophet. Lots of lights around town (especially in the Old City, from what I see in the papers), and little carnivals. Witty Teacher invited Roomie to go to one with her on Thursday night, and she brought me back some cotton candy. (yummy!)

(Friday) Now Ruz: Parsi New Year. Celebrated in Pakistan mainly by Afghan & Irani immigrants, as well as the local Parsi (Zoroastrian) community.

(Sunday) Easter, Western Church: Teacher Begum tells me that Habibeh was really excited when he woke up this morning and discovered that the Easter Bunny knew he'd moved to Pakistan. (Globe-trotting citizen of the world, that Easter Bunny.)

(Sunday) Pakistan Day: The anniversary of the day--23rd March, 1940--when the Muslim League passed a resolution declaring their intention to form the nation of Pakistan.

Whew! I feel festive just thinking about it all.
